Senior Lisa Jutsum spent spring semester of her junior year in the Democratic Republic of Congo as a holistic development intern with Food for the Hungry, a Christian relief and development organization.

Drawing from her major in international relations, Lisa found herself observing United Nations security meetings, listening to briefings by the United States foreign diplomat, and creating policies and writing proposals for her organization.

Lisa writes, "This photo captures one of the most precious moments of my time in Congo. I was visiting an internally displaced people camp in Minova, on the outskirts of Goma, to assess the water and sanitation needs at this camp. Fidèle, meaning "faithful" in French, was my loyal translator. We laughed as I attempted to speak Swahili.

"In the last two months alone, over 200,000 new people have been displaced in the North Kivu region during the recent resurgence of rebel fighting. These same people—I held their hands and I heard their stories. Not unlike other cities in this region, Minova has been run over by rebels in one of the world's longest running conflicts. I don't know where my friend Fidèle is now, and my heart breaks. Yet at the same time that I mourn, I rejoice in the promises of a good and faithful God."
